DCCrafts started out as Debbie’s Classic Crafts in 1991, in Adelaide, South Australia by Deb Anderson. However, as Deb got older she decided she didn’t like being called ‘Debbie’ any more – so with the introduction of web pages and domains, it was shortened to DCCrafts.
The craft business first started by sewing up x-stitch designs for Jill Oxton in Adelaide, South Australia. Jill then photographed the finished pieces and used them in her books – Jill Oxton Cross Stitch Australia… As Deb was earning money the next step was to set up a business.
In the early years Deb had a stall at the local markets each weekend with some friends and would also do x-stitch consignment pieces for friends.
Then, one day at a craft fair there was Paper Tole being demonstrated by a lady called Lynn Cunningham – Deb was hooked. Paper Tole then became her passion for 30+ years.
After moving to Perth in 1994, over the years a variety of craft classes were put together- paper tole, decoupage, decorated boxes – setup another craft stall with a friend, and learnt silk painting. Silk painting classes then followed.
Now, the two main craft passions are:
* card making – using stamping, paper tole pictures, feathers, lace, ribbon, buttons and many other embellishments;
* mosaics – using glass and tiles and embellishments.
Hours are spent in the craft studio creating one-off hand made pieces.
Recently Iris Folding has been added … 30+ unique Iris Folding patterns have been designed. Iris Folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of coloured paper in such a way to form a design. The centre of the design forms an iris – a shape reminiscent of the iris of an eye of a camera lens. Iris Folding designs look great on cards.
DCCrafts is still going after all these years and living the dream … holding workshops – in class and online … attending the local markets … creating consignment pieces … sharing all things craft!!!
